Work hard, play hard. That’s my motto! But sometimes you just need a BREAK. A chance to get away from it all, put your feet up and simply switch off. And where better to do this than in the beautiful, countryside Cotswolds; notably at the Dormy House Hotel & Spa?! Think cosy corners, log fires and sumptuous interiors, this rural retreat is a great escape. Here’s the lowdown of what we thought of our stay…
As you can see, there’s countless good points (and the list could go on!) but I really did struggle to find any faults; other than -quite simply- wanting more time there!
On arrival we had our champagne lunch. There was a lot to choose from on the menu but we vouched for the muscles with crusty bread. Totally delicious! We also got a complimentary slice of cake… freshly baked. We went on carrot cake day. Sweet, yet not TOO sweet so you don’t have to feel too guilty for demolishing it!
From there, we checked into our room, got changed and headed to the spa. Because we had limited time here, we left the gym (although it was really quiet -just how I like it- and although fairly small, it had everything in there you would want/ need), instead popping ourselves around the pool for a swim, steam and a little read of some magazines. The pools a great size which means you can get some really strong lengths in; although the vibes in there are so relaxing, you kind of end up just wanting to float around! You also have the outdoor hot tub terrace which was -arguably- my favourite. Pure perfection!
They then have a thermal suite, inspired by Scandinavian therapeutic techniques that are specifically designed to soothe, cleanse and invigorate. You can enjoy the gentle warmth of the lavender-infused sauna or bask in the juniper-laced dry heat of the Finnish cabin (this is all wooden with glass doors: really nice design). You can then head into the salt steam room, breathe enriching mineral air, before cooling down with a drench shower or -if you really need perking up- an ice experience which will soon have you bright-eyed and refreshed!
You can certainly see why the spa is award winning. After using the facilities, having our one-hour treatment (which like I mentioned, I went for the Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage), we then headed to the Greenhouse; great for a post-treatment wind down. We popped our feet up with a tea and hot chocolate before finally heading back to our room to get ready for dinner.
Dormy House have a number of options for restaurants, but our Spa Package placed us in the Potting Shed which has a very relaxed, easy-going atmosphere; without slipping on the standard of food or service. We had a delicious two course meal, followed by cocktails and board games by the fire… The perfect way to end a very relaxing day!
Sound good? Fancy a little look around? I don’t blame you!
In all honesty, our stay was pretty faultless. If you’re looking for a luxury, countryside break: the Dormy House could almost certainly be for you! Find out more by visiting their official website here.
