So you’re heading away, seeing the world, experiencing all of these amazing things; but how do you stay organised, remember everything you need and make sure you can really capture these special moments?! Wondering what to take whilst traveling? Don’t worry, I thought I’d do a quick run-through of my essential travel gear that I couldn’t go without! I’ll also keep this one updated with my latest kit-list, and would love to hear what’s on your kit list…
So we’ve got to start with the beauty that holds it all. This Travel Backpack has ✔Multi Compartments & Pockets ✔USB Port Design ✔Superior Breathable Material ✔Water Resistant ✔Laptop Friendly and is honestly the perfect travel companion! I recently invested in it when heading over to Island Hop in Indonesia and now I literally cannot leave without it. It has all the different compartments you need to really keep everything organised (instead of hunting around for ages trying to find something!), the feature that enables you to charge your phone through your bag so that you can still use it is absolutely GENIUS and it keeps all of my equipment really safe and protected. I did a lot of surfing around not only in stores but also online and this bag was hands down the best I found for style and features. Another bonus of it is it’s unisex, so it’s perfect for both my partner and I to share. Win, win! (BUY HERE)
So I’ve had this camera for a couple of years now and did A LOT of research beforehand to figure out the best one for me. I wanted something that could not only take high-quality photos, but also record high quality video for filming projects. I took advice from both experts and fellow bloggers until finally deciding on this beauty! The 700D certainly fits the bill for all of my requirements. It’s high quality, high resolution and has so many different features; without becoming confusing! When it comes to video it has creative control and Hybrid CMOS AF that focuses continuously as you shoot and -if you’re into vlogging- it has a reversible screen which you can turn around so you can watch yourself as you speak. (Super handy!) It’s also incredibly competitive on price (when I was about to buy there was the new 750D out, but I chose the 700D because it was far better value and the latest version was not significantly better to justify the price)- I really couldn’t recommend my pick more, honestly. The camera comes with your first 18-55mm camera lens, your charger, all the cables you need and a neck strap. You can look at other camera lenses once you’re ready but as a starting point- this one is brilliant. So, whether you’re buying as a beginner, as a blogger looking to progress, or even just for fun: it’s perfect for all. (BUY HERE) Psst, don’t forget you will also need a Memory Card to go with this (or any camera you choose). You can buy that here. This ones the perfect size.
Now, our backpack has a dedicated section to keep your laptop safe and separate pockets for other valuables, but to keep the camera protected- it’s well worth investing in a case. This one is waterproof, designed specifically for the 700D and super super good value. (I’ve not seen another that’s a better price!) The front pocket is useful for any extras, it offers a snug fit for your camera and the neck strap means if you do want to take it out your backpack, you can hang the camera securely around you, ready for any (and every!) photo opportunity. It’s also a nice size and not too bulky which is essential when traveling. (BUY HERE)
There’s no denying, GoPro’s are pretty damn cool! Perfect for adventures. They’re tiny, easy to travel with, able to make sturdy and waterproof and capture your activities in a whole new way. When I first invested in the GoPro I didn’t get the newest one, but instead the Hero 4 as it gave me all the features I needed for a cheaper cost. If you do want the latest however, take a look at the Hero 5,the Hero 6 or Hero 7. On comparison the 4 is still pretty up to scratch -trust me- it works an absolute treat and has transformed the way I watch my travels back, but it all depends what you’re into! (BUY HERE)
Now, there are so many add-ons and gadgets you can get for your GoPro, you’ll kind of feel like a kid in a candy shop! This bit was difficult to choose but three of my favourites gadgets to go with this are as followed:
I just find these allow you to use your GoPro in all the different ways you need and I personally have used them the most which is why I now take them with me whenever I go. They’re pretty compact so will still fit in that mighty backpack I mentioned above, or you can store in your suitcase if easier.
Once you have a Mac, you honestly never go back! I couldn’t recommend them more. The thing I love most about the Air is how small and lightweight it is (it even fits into some handbags!) which makes it absolutely perfect for working whilst on the move. When buying the Macbook Air you will have two options. This one which comes with 128GB SSD storage of storage, or this one which has 256GB SSD of storage. Other than the storage factor they are completely the same (bar the slight difference in price) but as I use a back-up drive, I personally keep the majority of my files on that making the first one more than sufficient. (BUY HERE)
NOTE: When it comes to phones, I also stay local to Apple, getting a monthly contract (always with unlimited calls, texts and data- essential for my business) and getting a new version every time a new iPhone is announced. I don’t get the latest, but the one before it (every time a new one launches, the older one reduces in price! Crafty hey?!) Your phone choice is just as important as the rest of your technical gear (in fact, I take a lot of photos and videos on my phone 1. for convenience and 2. because when you get the right one: the quality is pretty damn good anyway!) so I would definitely recommend iPhones.
So you’ve got all your camera gear, you’ve got your laptop, but you’re now going to need a back-up drive: one to secure all those photos of yours (accidents do happen and it’s not worth risking losing them!) but two: so that when you do transfer all the photos and videos to your laptop, you’re not going to overload the storage! I’ve always used the Transcend as they’re resilient and reliable. I actually have two: one blue one and one green one. The blue is the ‘master’ backup drive that stays at home and the green travels around with me. It’s better to be safe than sorry as they say! (BUY HERE)
Now this has been an absolute GEM. Not only do I not go traveling without it but actually, I rarely leave the house without it! I did so much research into travel banks because -with a lot of equipment I’m using a lot- it’s an absolute essential. I previously had the Anker smaller, more compact portable charger that you can just fit in your pocket, which was good and handy but as it’s gotten older- the life on it has drastically decreased (It now struggles to last one charge!) So I’d recommend it as a short term, day-to-day handbag goodie back at home and even perhaps as an accompaniment whilst away: just don’t rely on it solely and know it won’t last forever! Not like the Aukey Power Bank… Great value for money, hasn’t downgraded in standard with time, provides hours of energy and also enables you to charge multiple devices at a time! It’s not something you would really carry around in your pocket but fits into a small bag nicely, is super reliable and os hands down one of my best buys. (BUY HERE)
Now I’m sure you’ve all heard of kindles before but they have to make it into my essentials because quite frankly, there’s no better way to switch off -in my opinion- than to pick up a good book and get stuck into an exciting read! Kindles are lightweight, compact and give you access to millions of books right at your fingertips. I love downloading a few samples, seeing which grabs me the most, then absolutely devouring it on any chill-stops or whilst in transit. It’s like the cure to ANY boredom! You can also learn a lot on the move when downloading business books too. Very insightful! (BUY HERE)
I literally won’t go anywhere without a neck pillow when traveling. Not only is it perfect for the plane, but also handy when traveling via bus/ car once you arrive. The great thing about this one is that you can deflate it, put it back in your bag and it then doesn’t become an inconvenience to carry! It’s super comfy and also comes with an eye-mask and earplugs so that you’re all set and ready to go! (BUY HERE)
The alternative (I have both and pick depending on trip length, convenience and actually pretty much how I feel!) is this…
This travel pillow is totally unique, one-of-a-kind and actually scientifically proven to effectively support your neck whilst traveling. It’s half the size of the standard travel pillows, holds your neck in position and works by being gently wrapped around your neck. Such a clever concept and a great alternative. Highly recommend! (BUY HERE)
The last thing you want when traveling is having to faff around with adapters; particularly when you’re traveling multi-country. The individual ones get lost so easily and you end up having to buy so many, which is why I instead invested in the worldwide one. It’s better value for money, saves hassle whilst you get there and means you have everything you need in one place. You’ll be well prepared for whatever adventures come your way with this one! (BUY HERE)
A new buy for me but now I can’t leave without it (even when traveling and working around in the UK!) As someone who is super environmentally conscious, I absolutely hate the wastage of plastic water bottles; particularly when traveling. By buying this glass bottle it not only means it’s super convenient when flying (I can take it through security when it’s empty and simply fill up at water fountains which saves money, and then continue to get it filled up on the plane which keeps me stocked up!), but it also means once I arrive, I can continue using it, buying a big stock of water and then just filling up. The design is classic (there’s seven different colours to choose from), it’s strong & durable and the eco-friendly element certainly adds to the feel-good factor! (BUY HERE)
Last but not least you cannot forget your trusty selfie stick! And I know what you’re thinking: should this REALLY make it onto ‘the essentials’ list, but actually yes, yes it should, because when traveling -either solo or in small groups- you can’t always find people to take photos of you (nor can they always get it at the right angles), so I am a BIG fan of the selfie stick. Don’t be embarrassed. Feel no shame here! And welcome to the selfie-stick club 😉 (BUY HERE)
So that rounds it off. 16 essentials I will always take with me whilst traveling. Believe it or not, these will all fit into that backpack I vouched for at the top. Amazing right?! I really hope this has helped. Any questions, pop them in the comments box below.
